second strange problem: several workstation can't access some websites

I have serveral computers with windows 2000 system. users told me they have trouble to access some websites, like google. there is no any problem when they access other websites. other computers on same network have no this problem. all computers have dynamic IP and same DNS configuration.

I tried to replace network card and use Netscape, can't resolve the problem.
I tried to reinstall windows 2000 on one of these computers, no problem any more., everything is good.

anybody has idea?

thanks

    • reset the IE configuration, go control panel -- internet option -- advanced --click default setting button.
      • I tried use Netscape, the problem is still there.
        • what is the error msg? it is related to network connection or the email configuration like smtp or pop3/imap. check them.
        • for win2000/nt, delete the user profile and recreate it. save the stuff as needed.
          • I create a new account, so I have a new profile. with this profile, I have the same problem
            • resign ba.
    • Compare all browser configuration(DNS or so) with one OK, you can find diff.
      • We use DHCP assign the IP, DNS configuration. other computers have no this problem
    • Do some checking
Do some checking:1. nslookup to check the DNS resolver. 2. ipconfig to compare the DNS setting with good ones. 3. ping the ip address directly or tracert to the ip address. If no working, check the routing table. 4. If still doesn't find the problem, check your firewall setting if you have one.
      • 1, nslookup, my DNS works fine, I got correct IP of www.google.com 2. compared. no problem
3 ping www.google.com get reply. route very good.
        4. stateful firewall allow all traffice originate from inside to go out.

        Thanks anyway
        • Then put sniffer to analyze traffic of a failed session on both sides of your stateful firewall.
        • some router has black hold. try to change MAXMTU size. i has this problem when use XP as internet share. another computer can not or very slowly.
          • Hi, I fixed it. the MAX MTU is 1500, I changed it to 1460 on all my LAN computers before.
But I don't know why the change on these several computers Do not work fine. What I did today is change it back to 1500, restart the computer, change it to 1460, restart the computer again. now , everything is fine.

Thanks a lot for all the people help me on this forum.
