President George W. Bush Appoints Nortel Networks Sue Spradley to National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee

W. Bush has appointed Susan Spradley, president, Wireline Networks,
Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT) to the National Security
Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). In its advisory role to
the president, the NSTAC provides industry-based analyses and
recommendations on a wide range of policy and technical issues related
to telecommunications, information systems, information assurance,
infrastructure protection, and other national security and emergency
preparedness (NS/EP) concerns.
As a presidential appointment to the NSTAC, Spradley will serve as
an important resource for the president and his national security team
in their efforts to protect critical U.S. infrastructure in today's
dynamic environment. In this position, Spradley will be involved with
a broad range of policy and technical issues related to
telecommunications, critical infrastructure protection (CIP), homeland
security, and other NS/EP concerns. This includes the NSTAC's current
initiatives that intersect with several programs set forth in the
National Plan for Information Systems Protection, such as information
sharing, the security and reliability of converged networks, and
research and development (R&D) issues related to converged networks.
Since joining Nortel Networks in 1986, Spradley has held
increasingly responsible management positions in sales, sales
engineering, marketing, product line management, and customer service.
In her current role as president, Wireline Networks, Spradley is
responsible for driving cost-effective packet solutions for Nortel
Networks voice, data and multimedia service offerings, as well as
maintaining Nortel Networks leadership position in circuit technology.
Spradley holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the
University of Kansas and graduated from the Advanced Management
Program at Harvard University Business School. In addition to her
responsibilities with Nortel Networks, Spradley is active in her
community and is a member of Nortel Networks Women's Executive Board,
which supports development and promotion of women into senior
management roles.
