My arguments...

1. It was very good of proposing an all-purpose document so that people can use it anywhere, anytime, whenever, etc.. Now we can't.

2. Hu Kou is Hu Kou, Liang You Zheng is Liang You Zheng. Every document has its own usage. A birth certificate is the evidence of a person's birth geographic information to proof his immigration status(not from any dictionary). A travel document is to allow people to travel to other countries with permits (not from any dictionary as well).

3. What are the reasons not to use an international wide document?

4. Why to give the immigration officers a harder time to recognize the documents statistically rare to appear?

5. Let suppose such a case. A canadian birth certificate is easily recognized by any canadian authorities. But, when a people holds such a document goes to Viename, Thailand, or South Afarica, do people there recognize such a document? It is easy to leave/reenter Canada, what about the countries to be visited?

  • 枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / Can't understand those people who ask/asked to use citizenship cards rather than passports. I have been thru borders times(not showoff). Not a single time saw any native people holding citizenship cards.
Is a people dying for having a passport?
These are two countries. That's why people use "pass" "ports". People keep asking this questions. When you were a chinese citizen, have you thought of using chiese id to pass borders instead? A passport could be obtained within 48 hrs.

I have seen my canadian colleague could not make his way back because his passport expired. Why didn't he think of using a citizenship card? I also have seen that canadians holding driver's licenses to get thru borders and were rejected. Not any individual I have ever seen used a citizenship card.

What are the emotional points to be using a citizenship card?

You are welcome to throw stones/eggs on my head. However, I do NOT understand such people.
    • Canadians who were born in Canada do not use passport to cross the border for a short leisure visit. A birth certificate is good enough.

        • I thought you are talking about traveling to States. If that's the case, citizenship card or birth certificate should be OK. Well, I did not read the whole article end to end, I may miss some points. Sorry about it.
          • I was talking about anywhere. All the people I saw people were holding either canadian passport or american passports. Some people just don't want to make life easier. Never mind.
    • You cannot understand why some canadians would like to use citizehship cards or other photo ids to enter US.
This is all because of your ignorance of the NAFTA treaty which is an agreement among US, Canada and Mexico. It's not MANDATORY for canadian to carry passport when travelling to US and Mexico. But it's highly RECOMMENDED now because of US's homeland security plan. I wouldn't toss stones/eggs on your ignorant head anyway. :-)
