If you are logged on using an *ADMINISTRATIVE ACCOUNT*, then

try opening notepad and pasting the following information into it...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000

In notepad, go to File, Save... and save the file (using quotes) as "regedit.reg". Now close notepad and double click this file you just saved to merg it to Windows system registry. You should be able to access the registry again after performing this
procedure if you are actually an Administrator.

    • What happened when you run 'regedit'? Any error message pops up? What OS are you running on the laptop, Windows 9X or NT, 2000? May you run 'regedt32' ?
      • "Registry editing has been disabled by your administor". The OS is XP professional.
      • Same thing for regedit32. Thanks
      • try C:\WINNT\I386\REGEDIT.EXE

      • I got the same error message.
        • Did you installed any computer security related ad-ware or spy-ware ? If yes please un-install it and then try the reg file method again.
          • I will check, thanks.

            • 你要是上网可以显示中文就一定可以设置.
    • TRY THIS: Run-->gpedit.msc (Group Policy editor); Check "User Config"-->System-->"Prevent to access registry tools"
      • Sorry, Should be "User Configuration-->Administrative templates-->System-->Prevent ..."
