Tried but didn't work. Phase 1 of NT/2000 installation went on w/o problem(partitions are found, files are copied...), the system just won't hook to a scsi disk when reboot.

Last night, I experimented by plugging the cables on different channels, now the situation seems improve a bit: the the SCSISelect utility shows correct configuration AHA3940 SCSI controller(1 tapedrive and 1 cdrom on ch1, no device on ch0). the Mylex RAID controller can see the 7 drives but report "scsi device at ch x target y is not responding.", the RAID utility Quicklauch utility then require "a hard reset" after display those drive as "Orignal state: Online, Current: dead". A reset to the sytem bring it back the same state...

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I got a Digital PC server few days ago with Windows NT4 originally installed. Because there are too many other misellanious software utilities come with it, I erase the NT and wanted to installed the Windows 2000 on it yestday. Now the situation is it won't even boot. Every time when the server is restarted, it tells "No SCSI boot device found." The host adapter is AHA3940, it can recognize the CDROM/ and tape drive on Channel B, but no device on can be detected on Channel A, which do have 7 drives attached. Among those 7 drives, 6 of them are configured as RAID5 and the other 1 as RAID7(factory default, unconfigurable). One other thing that is strange to me is that these drives are visible to DAC960 array controller.
Windows 2000/NT set went through w/o any problem, but after installation the server won't boot. when I run FDSK command, it shows "no fixed disk". thus no driver can be installed.
I personally think the most likely reason is the might be the device driver for AHA3940 is not installed. But now the problem is why the Channel B is working?
    Does anybody has a clue for trouble-shooting? Appreciated.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • 1. boot from win2k cd 2. as soon you see blue detect hardware bar press F6 3. you add SCSI driver over there. if you press F6 late you will miss this chance and you have to reboot again

        • my 2 cents
if hardware used to work on NT4. it won't be hardware problem. 1. check hardware spec from server vendor and get right driver. sometime's what you saw on the screen is SCSI chipset model other than SCSI card model. 2. use server vender provided server built CD to do OS install
    • for this case, I think that has two solutions: 1. use the Boot-CD (from Digital) to boot server, then follow the instruction to install OS (Win2K), it will install correct SCSI controller's driver for you.
HP/Compaq, Dell and etc. servers do have the same problem. u should use the OEM's BootCD.
      2. u should download SCSI controller's driver from Website and save it to floopy disk, then boot server from WinNT/2K/2K3 CD/FD, as soon you see blue detect hardware bar press F6, install SCSI drivers.
I think the SCSI controller is DAC960, the chipset is AHA3940, u should find the correct SCSI drivers for DAC960, not AHA3940.
      • 我试试看,回头告你结果。
    • Now, it's working. Thank to chinatiger and ivanliuxin.
