You never NEED H1B to get the GC
You simply need to have about 6 months left on your then current TN to file I-485.
H1 is for the comfort, primarily, of a lawyer unfamiliar with dealing with Cdn to US immigration, and, secondarily, as a stall tactic for firms to effectively have you on a probation period before sinking a lot of GC costs.
If they want to get you a H1B, fine.
But the 'GC process' could have started well before you even came to US, never mind waiting til you had secured an H1B.
Good Luck, and don't listen to that dude, Victory.
