本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛During the Landing process, if you drive, the officer will ask you who the owner is. If the answer is "my car", you have no choice but finish the importing process. You have to pay process fee as well. The reason is, being a Canadian permanent resident, you cannot have US tag on your car. It will lead you to several steps for finishing the process. (1) You will get a letter from RIV and asks you to finish the federal inspection within certain time frame (45 days or so). (2) finish provincial inspection within 60 or 90 days of the importing. If you could not finish the item 1 as requested, you could ask for delaying the inspection but a fine is associated with it. I believe is CAD$107 or so.
Now, if you just came here for short landing and would like to come back US for whatever reason and whatever period, do not drive your car during the landing trip and any trip after it. Rent a car so you will not get yourself in the above process. The officer will make note on your Good to Follow for future importing (within 1 year). If you are planning to live in Canada eventually, make sure you finish the importing process within 1 year. Otherwise, you have to pay tax on the car.
Let me know if you have any questions. I just finished the process within past 12 months.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
