By the way, apart from Hero and Curse of Golden Flower, I've also watched Spideman I,II (III in this summer), Metrix II,III, Crash, Mission Impossible III, Deviq Code, the Departure, Night at Museum, Dreamgirls, the Queen... tens of movies in Famous Player, and many cartoon movies with my daughter too.

The reason I went to theater for Hero and Curse of Golden Flower (and ZhouYu's train I watched in Bayview Village Alliance) is that I wanted to give them a shot, and the fact is it's worth it. If you don't believe it, give yourself a chance - I've attached the link for Movie schedule in last tip.

I recommend you to go to theater to watch Curse of Golden Flower where you're gonna be able to feel the wonder of it. I' ever went to theater to watch Hero from Zhang Yimou in Famous player 3 yrs ago. That is such a great feeling when you're sitting in the theater to watch them!

There is nothing wrong for a chinese director to make a movie which attract foreigner viewers, but it doesn't mean those are good movies. If Zhang yimou keeps doing what he is doing right now, he will never make another passionate movie like "to live", therefore he will never win an Oscar even he prayed for. There is no soul , no meaning in those non-sense big budget movies.
It is not only because we are chinese that we have to support Chinese directors, Chinese actors or Chinese movies. It is the good movies which inspire us , entertain us and we are willing to pay for it and sitting through it in the theatres. Anyway, I don't think you watch many movies, that's why your standard is so low or you are just too young , easily attracted by the look of the film instead of the content.

BTW, just watched "Curse of the Golden Flower", it is so bad that I want to leave right after 10 mins. I think it should be called "Curse of Zhangyimou's Gongfu genra". He should stop wasting money and actors' talent. I do hope it is the end of this idiology. Chinese movie is calling for the fresh air. Jackie Chan, Zhangyimou have gone with the wind.

Spiderman I,|| , whatever I don't think I need to critique that. To be honest I think Cartoons are much better movies now. Such as Wallace & Gromit , The incredibles,cars, those are terrific movies. But sorry, "Curse of the golden flower" is just a gaudy movie with empty shells, as one will say " it is gold outside and rotten inside". It is dreadfully overkill, ridicous color and costume with amy like actors. All those staged fighting is just ridiculous. I cannot bare any more of those stupid movies, but I guess as you said, there are lot of people like you which will gurantee their box office, I do hope there are less fans for movie like this, since if they are still making movie, they will keep doing this, but I think it is the end of the road for this genre, even foreigners are sick of it, both movies(ye yan) are not nominated in Golden Globe and Oscar, the fact said it.
