I am in an organization called Air Cadets. The link is left below. Basically, it is a program that offers something for everyone. If your kids like sports, we have that. If they like to write, we have that too. The best part is, it's free!
So you're probably asking, what is air cadets? It is a program for children 12-18 run by both the government and the military. Don't worry though, because you don't have to join the military to be in cadets. I know I would never join the army! So what we do is we meet once a week, on Friday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 (after work). I like Fridays because it allows me to go to cadets without worrying about when I am going to do my homework. On Fridays, we teach and take classes, do drill, etc.
However, the best part comes on the trips, which are mostly free. This March Break, we are going to South Carolina for $200, all inclusive for a week. You probably couldn't even go to Mississaugua all inclusive for $200. Later this year, we will have a canoe weekend, a white water rafting weekend, a survival weekend, and they are all FREE! So if your kids want to go on these trips, send them to cadets!
Cadets doesn't end there. Every year, we have a drill team, band, rifle drill team, and flag party, and they all go to competition. Just yesterday, our drill team won first place at our first competition of the year. Come the new year, your kids will have a chance to join these teams and win!
Now if that's not enough to convince you to bring down your kids, there's the added benefit of summer camp. Now usually, you worry about what your kids will do for two months, and every year, they just end up watching tv, and getting fat. Regular summer camp can cost thousands of dollars, but cadets summer camp, get this, is not only free, but PAYS YOU to go! That's right, they get to go to summer camp, meet friends, have fun, learn new things, and GET PAID!! Get the full benefit of your tax dollars, send your children to cadets summer camp.
So now, you're probably thinking: Wow! what a great program! How do I join?
That's easy. Come down any Friday to Glenview Public School between 6:30 pm and 9:30pm. We are located at Lawrence and Avenue Road. There's no obligation to join, so just come down and watch if you'd like. Visit our website for even more information, and to see pictures of recent trips.
Oh, did I mention, because we're air cadets, your kids have a chance to get their pilot licence FOR FREE! I'm probably getting mine this summer. And just like any extra curricular activity, cadets is fantastic to write on an university application. So come on down and just see how good we really are!
