2. most cases Cable is faster than DSL, but you should consider other things, i.e. TV channels, availibilty in your place(sometimes you may not have DSL option). From my experience DSL is a little more stable than Cable, after all DSL could be easier to manage in ISP's point of view.
3. Static IP is useless to you unless you want to be a server on the Internet, nowadays neither of them gives you that.
4. You need a router to establish an internal network in house. see www.futureshop.ca, 70$ you can get one.
