You can't claim "Caregiver amount" for your parents if you married. You can't still claim "Equivalent-to-spouse-amount" for your father or mother if you are single person.

1) For the first claim conditions, please see details on the P33 of Guide. --- The dependent MUST have been one individual:
".... You cannot claim this amount for a person who was only visiting you".
-- In addition, the dependent MUST have met all of the following conditions.
a) ...at the time he or she lived with you;
b) had a net income of less than $15453; and
c)... if he or she is your parent, born in 1936 or earlier.

2) For the second claim conditions, please see p31 of Guide.

本人税表已交,今天听人说我父母2001年来探亲也要报税?那怎么报啊?是他们自己单独填表吗?现在人都回去了,怎么操作,时间已剩不多了,请各位给小女子指条明路啊.另外报不报有什么差别?他们能拿到退税吗?先谢谢大家了.

别的不知道，只知道父母来住半年以上才可以报。半年以上才算赡养。另外税是退给你，如果有的话，因为你赡养了父母，所以可以少交税。 -warhook(likeplay); 2002-4-17 (#465093@0)
