basically the projects I experienced with SCRUM are R&D projects, the project leader does not have a full view of the project's result(or output),

so we have daily meeting to review last day's tasks and assign the current day's tasks. You will feel the pressure every day, and it's realy good for small scale R&D project. sometimes you can not finished the assighed tasks and find it will take you more than one day to finish it, you ahve to report it and sugest the scrum master to devide the task ans reassign them. some times you can finished a "heavy" task with 2 or 3 hours and you find the sassumption of the tasks is wrong. the most diffcult thing for scrum is the scrum master does not have enought experience of agile development experience.

It would rather be a management monitor tool than a development plan tool. But Scrum do has both. Before you kick off a sprint, you have to break down your tasks -superchris(chris); 2009-4-24 {225} (#5217995@0)
in accordance with your time and resource budget. And then you could check tasks status in a daily way. Manager could aware earlier if sth goes wrong or get delay, instead of taking much more risk until the delivery deadline.
