Dear Mrs. **,
I’m having a wonderful time at China. China is very different from Canada in many ways.
The place I am staying at is a city called Changzhou, which is in Eastern China’s Jiangsu Province. It is quite close to Shanghai, China’s largest city.
The place has cold weather but no snow. The coldness is actually inside the room because there are no air conditioners in some places. You’ll need 3 bed blankets when you sleep, and 4 layers of clothes!!!
The entertainment is also quite different. My aunt brought me to a place called Meiling. It costs ¥38 but in holidays, the price is ¥58 to be in there for ten hours. You could bathe, shower, eat food, do exercises, use computer, etc. …… I drank lots of water with watermelon pieces and also ate about half a dozen of sugar canes.
Almost all the streets are crowded and noisy and the traffic is always very busy. There are many high buildings on the both sides of the streets. I also find some interesting stores. Most stores sell a type of “pills” that have the same nutrition of milk and have different flavors, and other snacks are yogurt, jelly, chocolate and crackers…
The TV advisements are by far the longest, unordinary ads I’ve ever watched. The ads could be as long as 8 minutes and will give you some scary prices— a mobile telephone with a diamond and 23k gold for only ¥1997, a type of light-up mobile telephone that’s ¥298 and it has touchable screen, voice changer, and a whole list of features!!!
People celebrate Chinese Spring Festival in traditional ways. They light fireworks and sparklers and prepare tasty foods such as dumplings, rice cakes, sweet soup balls etc. My favorite food is rice cakes. They are sweet and sticky and tastes superb.
China is very interesting; it’s full of wonders and surprises. Some things seem surprisingly cheap, and some are awesomely expensive. Living at Changzhou, Jiangsu is great!
Give my best wishes to my classmates. I’m looking forward to returning to school!
