Someone at work said: "I see you as my brother" - that's bullshit, except if he is an Italian.
Office is not family. There is no brotherhood or sisterhood. There are cooperation and competition. Over the years, I've learnt that to make your office a more desirable place to go to each morning, you should put cooperation ahead of competition. You could miss many opportunities, but the reward is in the smiles.
I have lost many friends at work - mostly because I am too lazy to move on so only myself stayed for so long. But I managed to keep some. Now I have a few close fellow workers that always hang togather. They are all very talented people, super stars. When you are in such a pack, you feel excited. Working with smart people drives your inner desire to shine. Among the four of us, we watch each other's back. We tolerate each other's differences, we compete fair and square.
But each year there are just so many promotion tickets, just one bucket of $$ for raise and bonus, just that many conferences and training opportunities. What would you do?
I never asked for raise or bonus, never asked for promotions, and never asked for trainings. Because I don't need to ask. I know someone else has asked on my behalf. I know someone else is watching my back helping me. I do the same thing to others.
How long this fellowship will last? I don't know. I used to be called the geat one. Probably because I don't speak oftern. Western people tend to think the quiet Asian guy must be smart. Now that I speak more, I lost that title. LOL.
I never mind seeing any of them getting ahead of me at some point. I kind of hope that time would come earlier. I need some motivation to move on. I am getting stale and wasting my time on Rolia.更多精彩文章及讨论，请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
