98年Nissan Altima GXE，6.5万公里，购于两月前，虽然一直没什么毛病，

但是一直不放心。上周，趁着正好要换机油，找了一个“Nissan Authorized Dealer”，做了一次检查，共付了$170，包括换机油，Transmisson oil，对调轮胎及其他检查，被告知“so far so good”。可昨晚在local上开的时候，“sevice engine soon”灯突然亮了（没有闪烁），不过车子行使一切正常。今天上午又开回dealer那里，检查的结果是：“vent control valve and canister”出了问题，换新的需要$287，再加税。具体是什么问题俺没有听明白，所以也没答应他换。他们用电脑把我的车reset后，那个灯已经灭了，不过他说那个灯不知什么时候还会再亮起来。

这里我想请问诸位DX，那坏的到底是个什么东东？是不是必须得换？如果在别处换，价格能便宜些吗？

    • 我的FORD也出过这毛病，没修，开了几天自己好了，感觉这类毛病多半是智能感应功能障碍(装上它是为了监测发动机状态，结果90%的情况是发动机没事，它自己故障而报警)，只要想起当年驾校的教练车，觉得这不是问题 -cacross(cacross); 2002-5-31 (#550981@0)

      You can ask other places. It should be around $100-120 according your car. If you are lucky, maybe someone car repair it. That isn't a very complicate part.

        • The ECU will set the error code only if the oxygen sensor send abnormal signal. If you still doubt it, you can clear the error code by disconnecting the battery. After driving for 1 days, check the error code again. -happy_life(happy_life); 2002-6-6 (#561407@0)

            why the auto part store told me that the sensor they are selling has 5 years warranty, but when I told garage, they said it's impossible to get 5 years warranty for the sensor. How many years warranty will such sensor have from manufactory? Who said the truth? garage or the store?
            • Usually about 10-20% of oxygen sensor should be replaced after 3 years. So if they have 5 years warranty, they would bankrupt long time ago. -happy_life(happy_life); 2002-6-6 (#561612@0)

    • Canister is used to absorb the gasoline vapor from fuel tank. It is a emission control device which has activated carbon. -triplestones(NVH); 2002-6-6 {280} (#561437@0)
      Canister should be surviving throughout the vehicle life.

      When the vehicle is running, Vent control valve will open to bring gas vapor to engine. The vent valve is a solenoid valve in nature.

      Canister and vent control system are very robust. The chance to be wrong is slim.
