本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛*** What does my "PWR/ECO" button do? ***

The shift points for your automatic transaxle are controlled by a computer, which has been factory-programmed to shift up or shift down according to a set of pre-defined conditions which include the engine speed, the vehicle speed, and the throttle position. Indeed, you have been provided with 2 such sets of conditions, and you select which set you want by toggling the PWR/ECO switch. When toggled to the "PWR" position, the instrument cluster's orange "PWR" light comes on.

All else being equal, the ECO setting favours lower engine speed, while the PWR setting favours higher engine speed. That is, when accelerating, your car will shift up sooner (at a lower engine RPM) in ECO mode than it will in PWR mode and, when decelerating, your car will shift down later (again, at a lower engine RPM) in ECO mode than it will in PWR mode.

In brief, if you want to conserve fuel, use the ECO mode, but if you want stronger acceleration, use the PWR mode.

*** What does my "OD ON/OFF" button do? ***

Your automatic transaxle can select among 4 gears, known as "1st" through "4th". On the left side of the shifter is a toggle switch, labelled "OD ON OFF". When toggled to the "OFF" position, the instrument cluster's orange "OD OFF" light comes on.

Turning off the overdrive excludes 4th gear from the automatic gear selections made by your transaxle's computer. That is, it prevents the automatic transaxle from shifting from 3rd to 4th.

And why would you want to do this? Well, as an example, entering a busy highway from a short on-ramp would require getting up to speed in a hurry. Your car will go faster quicker if the engine can rev at a higher (i.e. more powerful) RPM. By staying in 3rd, you get more power, and hence more acceleration, out of your car, albeit at the expense of increased fuel consumption.

Don't forget to switch back to "ON", though.
