Thanks for your reply...However

I only understand MS product, I have to stick on it to keep my job. I plan to use Window 2000 with IIS+SQLServer+Exchange Server to build a small site in my home, now it is only for my own practice, in the furture if a good business idea comes up, everything is handy, it can be...
A friend told me that 1 residential line from Bell high speed or Roger which the most of us use it in our home only gives us a dynamic IP, so it only can support 1 web server. Right??? If for the business line, it gives you 5 IPs, however the price is higher than the residential line.

Learning a little bit every day...Thinking about to build a small site, I have some questions, DXs may have good answers...
    1) 2 servers (Exchange--for mail with the domain name which I will apply later; MS SQL--for Database) on 1 computer.
Which system is better? NT2000 with IIS or Window XP?
    2) I am using router now (more than 2 computers need be online)
Can be a problem if this computer as web Servers?
    Thanks in advance!
    • UP...UP...DXs please!
    • For the second question, as i know, there is not any problem. But one router only supports one web site hosting.
      • Thanks for your reply, this is really my concern, so I don't need apply for another cable or high speed Internet line for it.
        • If you just want to host one server, you don't need another cable. One router is enough.
        • it really doesn't matter. you can either run all 3 (or more) servers on 1 box, or better yet run them on multiple boxes, with 1 or more "routers".
          • Thanks...but confused.
My understanding, 1 rounter gets 1 IP from outside, it assigns multiple-IPs (e.g 192.168.1.x or 192.168.1.xx ) to internal PCs. A Web server need a IP to outside, right?, so how can 1 router supports more than 1 Web servers?
I really need find some references to understand IP. Can DXs recommend some URL to me please?
    • I suggest you to use Linux + Apache + MySQL
Because they are free, if you use Microsoft products, make sure they are legal (especially if you are running a business), otherwise, it may be trouble in the future.
      • I suggest to use Linux + iWS +iDS (www.iplanet.com)

        • I am an entry level. I have one question: If you do not have a static IP, how can anyone else find you? As for the OS, I suggest you buy a simplest Win 2k/XP and use the free ASP.NET and MSDE.
