IT job. New York or Bay Area?

Sorry, no Chinese input in company. Below list is only for comparing these two places.

Bay Area:
Advantages:
1. Great weather condition
2. Lots of IT companies
3. Nice environment like universities
4. Commute (Compare to NYC) ? No idea, normally how long will be spent on the way? 1 hour ? 2 hours ?
Disadvantages:
1. Expensive house and consume
2. Possibility of earthquake
3. Lack of water ?

New York:
Advantages:
1. Compare to Bay Area, house will be a little cheaper.
2. Finance center
Disadvantages:
1. Commute (plan to live in Long Island, and 3 hours will be spent every day on the way.)
2. IT job opportunities are less than Bay Area

Focus on career and kids education. Please give some advice. Thanks a lot.
