I guarantee that at some point one or both of us will want to get out of this thing.
But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life. Because I know in my heart -- you're the only one for me"
A wedding proposal quoted from the famous movie Runaway Bride. The reason I listed it here is not because of its beautiful sentence. Of course, it IS beautiful but still cliché to most of us. The reason I am mentioning it here is because of its truthfulness.
Every romantic movie seems to be always a happy ending: get married. However, as we all know, this is just a very beginning of story. The guy proposing is very brutally truthful because he knows "we'll have tough times" and even anticipates in this very beginning that "at some point one or both of us will want to get out of this thing". If we didn't face the truth, we lie regardless of either our naiveness or the good intentions.
However, a lot of us we were too young to face the painful truth when we got married. A lot of us thought we would be exceptional. Unfortunately, we lied or were blind at that point.
We often hear that "50% of all marriages in the US end in divorce", a statement that makes it seem like a coin toss. So how can I even understand the north American romance? If so, why bother to marry? Maybe this guy is right at least, somehow, it is a positive but practical way to look at marriage, so it gets serious and sincere.
"But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life." If you can be very sure about that, you are the luck guy. At lease you find someone no matter what ends.
Just chatting this with my friend, I was told "In China we have a similar saying:不求天长地久,但求曾经拥有, Am I right?"
I don't want to make any point here, but I have to say:
现代爱情标语是不是鼓励我们轻易结合也轻易背叛呢? Anyway, 相亲相爱、忠诚相守,繁衍出生生不息代表着人类永恒而美好的理想。男人与女人原本相爱,他们还应该爱得专一,忠贞不渝!不求天长地久,何必去追求曾经拥有呢?相反, 如果爱情无存,那这长相守难道就不是同样的背叛?
我真的也很confused了.
