It doesn't surprise me at all. University of Chicago is located in one of the worst areas in the city and criminal rate is of course high. Driving through there one night really scared me!

It is probably true. U of C situates in a really shabby area. You wouldn't feel ease when some dark appearance fellows approached your car with fists punching the windows while you were waiting for the traffic light.
