枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / H4 vs. B1? thanksHi, all
I am working at Canada and my wife is working in US under H1-B. if I visited US, which visa I should apply? H4 or B1?
I prefer B1 but not sure how easy it is. anyone could give any advice? thanks a lot.

if you're gonna stay with her, apply H4, otherwise apply B2 as a visitor. I would say H4 is easy.

thanks a lot.but I can not stay there in the near future. I guess the B2 is my option now. Can I apply B2 by other excuse? like visiting my parents? does it make it easier or not.

I would suggest you telling them the truth. visiting your wife is also very acceptable. Just convince them you have to stay in Canada for a while. But they may give you a relatively short term B2, who knows...

Actually you don't have to stay with your wife even after you obtain the H4 visa. But don't say that to VO.

I actually hold H4 status now, as far as I went back within 30 days, I am ok. but I can not visit china during this time.
if I got H4 "visa", is this multple entry visa? how long the term will be?

You should get H4 instead of B2. It is not legal to use B2 when your wife is working in the States. And you have to tell the Customs officer / Visa oficer about this otherwise you may get into trouble whenythey check your visa history.
If you are a Canada PR, you can get multipe H4 allowing you to enter from any countries for the duration of your wife's H1.

if you apply H4 in canada, very probably you'll get multiple entry visa for 3 years.

B1/B2 is better.

if you decide to get B1/B2, keep all Canada residence proof document every time you cross border, including job letter, rental lease, utility bills, tax return etc.

Since you don't want to stay in U.S., B1 is suitable and good enough for you. Actually, both visas are easy for you to get. Just tell the truth, you don't anything to hide.

you guys are great. people are warm hearted and knowledgable here. Can I decide it right before the VO? as far as multiple entry and can visit China. either one will work for me, I will just pick the easier one. right?

I doubt you can pick right in front of the VO. You have to fill in the visa type while making the appointment I thinkl
