枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / hi, I want to stay in US and look for a job. but I don't know how to solve the driving problem.I know I can drive there. but the insurance that I buy in Canada sure won't cover it. is it counted as driving without insurence? and also, without the visa transfer, I sure can't own a car and buy insurance down there? am I right? is there anyone can help me out here? thanks a lot.

all you need is the canadian driver license. you can buy a car and have car insurance in US

i dont believe it.what happens to those who only has TD or b1/b2. they do not have ssn, but they still drive

They can use driver license from another state or country. SSN is required for sure in California. H4 holders can use TIN. I don't know others.

不对。我今年4月就用加拿大护照申请了一个加州驾照，不用SSN。就告诉他们是visitor就行了。再从SSN办公室拿一个拒绝信。

Well, things have changed a lot, and it seems they have improved. SSN and DL are infamous for sending people back and forth. But as a visitor, why do you need a driver license? I'm jsut curious...
